Mary’s Margarita

Tim has become a pro at reworking cocktails to a light, low-cal version that I don’t have to feel guilty for drinking!  One of my faves is the margarita – way better than those sugar bombs from chain restaurants!

Try it out:

  • 2 oz. tequila (We like Sauza Hornitos)
  • 1 oz. agave nectar
  • 2 oz. lime juice (Rose’s)
  • diet lemon-lime soda (Sprite Zero, Sierra Mist Free, etc.)

Shake first three with ice in cocktail shaker.  Salt is a must have for me; there is NEVER enough salt on margaritas!  Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass (we use a pint glass).  Dip the rim in margarita or sea salt.  Pour  the tequila/agave/lime juice mixture into the glass (ice included).  Fill to the top with soda.  Bottom’s up!

Tips:  Add agave to the shaker first, then lime, then tequila.  The nectar is sticky, so the other two rinse out your measuring cup to ensure all the agave is in the drink.  We have also heard that you can use honey or maple syrup instead of agave nectar.  We will be testing that out…update to follow!
